studied philosophy and politics and graduated from the German School of Journalism. He worked as a musician and composer, later as a radio journalist at the Bavarian radio station Bayerischer Rundfunk. Following his doctoral dissertation and habilitation in philosophy he taught at the University for Applied Arts in Vienna as guest professor for philosophical aesthetics. In 2006 he was offered the chair for art history at the Academy of Visual Arts in Nuremberg, where he taught until 2012. Since 2012 he has been editor of the magazine »Merkur«.
